The Season of Extra

November 15, 2025

Without a plan, the joy of the holidays can quickly get buried . . .

November marks the beginning of the season of “extra.”

Extra dishes, extra décor, extra gifts, extra company, and extra events.

It’s all part of the fun of the Christmas season, but let’s be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. Without a plan, the joy of the holidays can quickly get buried under piles of stuff and a calendar that’s stretched too thin.

So, before December hits here are a few simple ways to enjoy the season without drowning in the excess:

Clear space.
Before the décor and serving platters come out, take some time to tidy and declutter. Clearing surfaces and making room now means your seasonal extras won’t feel like clutter, they’ll stand out as special touches.

Intentional décor.
You don’t need to display every single decoration you own. Choose the pieces you love most this year and rotate others in future years. Your home will feel festive, not crowded.

Gifting plan.
The season of giving is wonderful, but it’s easy to overbuy. Create a simple list and budget for gifts. Stick to it. Thoughtful doesn’t have to mean expensive or excessive.

Company plan.
Hosting family or friends? A little prep goes a long way. Designate a space for coats and boots, keep guest essentials (like towels or extra mugs) easy to grab, and make a simple meal plan to cut last-minute stress.

Protect your calendar.
December fills up fast. Say yes to the events that matter most and give yourself permission to say no when you need to. A quieter schedule often means a more joyful one.

The holidays are about connection, not chaos. By having a plan for the “extras” of the season, you’ll not only clear the clutter,  you will also create more space for the moments that truly matter.

If you’re feeling weighed down by holiday overwhelm, take some time to create a plan of attack. The time spent organizing will be worth your effort.
